Quad Safari Malevizi – Off-Road ATV Adventure in Crete
Activity Description
Discover the hidden side of Crete through an unforgettable quad safari adventure in the Malevizi region. Starting from Ammoudara, this exciting 55 km ATV route combines mountain landscapes, traditional villages, off-road trails, local history, and breathtaking panoramic views of the Cretan countryside.
Our adventure begins inland with a stop at Voulismeno Aloni, a fascinating geological sinkhole surrounded by wild natural beauty. We then continue towards the Keri Forest, where – depending on weather and seasonal conditions – we enjoy panoramic views over Heraklion and the Malevizi area.
The route continues through the village of Marathos before the real off-road experience begins. Driving through dirt roads, riverbeds, and lush vegetation, we reach the historic village of Fodele, believed to be the birthplace of the famous painter El Greco. Here, we visit the El Greco Museum and enjoy free time for coffee at the traditional village square under the shade of the plane trees.
Next, we head to Achlada, known as the “ghost village,” where we explore the abandoned settlement and learn about its fascinating history. The experience continues with a visit to a traditional olive oil mill, where you will discover the olive oil production methods used since Minoan times and enjoy a tasting of authentic local products and extra virgin olive oil.
Our final stop is the village of Rogdia and the historic Venetian House of the Modino family, offering spectacular panoramic views over the Gulf of Heraklion before returning to Ammoudara.
